Paradox

Fearful. Wonderful. All at the same time. Paradox.

Beyond the pandemic, the world is beset by paradox.

Both increasingly artistic and increasingly panicked.
Both joy-filled creative neighborhood games and unjust heartless systems exposed.
Both too much downtime and no ability to relax.
Both a surplus of people longing to offer help and a wealth of people who can’t see the racism in calling it the “Chinese Virus.”
Both a can-do “this isn’t so bad” attitude and a pervasive fatigue.
Both inspiring stories of thoughtfulness and generational-defining trauma.

But it felt weird to talk about fun in the midst of so much sorrow.

Are we supposed to follow the 10 easy tips about how to homeschool your kids or the 10 reasons you shouldn’t be homeschooling your kid at all? Maybe a little bit of both. Because we are living in this weird paradox that is not uncommon with traumatic grief or even just human existence as a whole.

Today’s biblical grounding: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” -Psalm 138:14
