Jonah & the Shutdown

In the story of Jonah and the Whale, after he gets out of the big fish’s belly, God sends Jonah as a foreigner to warn another country’s king about impending disaster. The king listens and institutes a national shutdown. All residents enter a period of social distancing, mourning, and repentance for the injustices of their society.

And then... no disaster. No wrath of God. No pandemic. No famine. No economic crash. Instead a more just & compassionate nation is born that uplifts the most vulnerable.

So Jonah gets mad at God for making him look like a fool having forced him to publicly predict a disaster that never came to pass. But that’s the point.
